The Futurestate

It's 2028, Loughborough has been regenerated into the capital of cool with a vibrant & organic townscape.

WHAT'S FUTURESTATE?

The team applied a futurestate mindset - we first scoped the problem space by observing signals in daily life such as personal experience, social phenomenon or habits.

Then, along with a targeted timeframe and quantifiable outcomes we make it sounds as attractive and as WOW as it could, before we come up with any solutions.

This design method was highly iterative where lot of design framework and system thinking were flexibly applied. User research went through the whole concept development process instead of only during the discovery stage.

Wide range of stakeholders were actively involved in the prototyping session to perfect the service details.

IDEATION PROCESS

PROTOTYPING

Prototype as questions

Since the initial design concept was built on the assumption that users are happy to share their crops and knowledge, there are 3 main questions that the team would like to find out by prototyping, which includes

01

Are users willing to share crops and knowledge?

02

Will people who use or want an allotment find our service as an attractive alternative?

03

Will people accept non-traditional forms of growing spaces and techniques?

Prototyping methods

To answer these questions, user testing were carried out with different participants with multiple prototypes.

We interviewed...

Allotment owner

Local planting networks

Vegetarian (as a wildcard!)
